GEORGE MEAD

Album art is unforgettable graphic imagery of cultural milestones. The art tells a story behind the music, unveiling nostalgic emotions unique to every individual. The traditional record album has become a musical artifact of our time. Each album is a musical gallery compiled of sounds, lyrics, beats, and the cover art is the visual expression of the stories told through the music.

In the late 1970’s George Mead started his 20+ career by working with dozens of popular artists, such as The Rolling Stones, Billy Joel, Elton John, Journey, as well as recent artist such as Justin Timberlake and Mariah Carey, by creating backdrops of his art and the set design for their concerts. Mead was a pioneer in the use of airbrush techniques, combined with mural work to bring together the world of art and music for these outdoor concerts all over the United States. He believes “art should be simultaneously complex and accessible to the public at large” and continued to produce the art used in concerts by bringing album mural art to the streets. Mead has merged his background in fine art studies and mural art with his passion for music into the reproduction of historic album covers.  These larger scaled ranging from 4′ x 4′ to 5′ x 5′ paintings of album covers elicit the concept that art and music are the gateway to human connection and feeling.
